| A 1920s Swan fountain pen manufactured in black hard rubber and finished with a chased waves effect pattern.
One of the larger sized more robust models, the outline of the Swan emblem engraved on the pens barrel is of the style introduced in the early 1920s and the engraved wording Swan Self filler Mabie Todd and Co Ltd in capital lettering is outstandingly clear as also is the chased pattern.
The 14 carat gold nib was made in New York, a fine point size nib engraved New York, in new condition.
Whilst production of Swan pens in England began from about 1907, the nibs were then made in New York and imported to the U.K.
Although the lever filler design was patented in the U.S.A. in January 1915 these models were not obtainable in the U.K. until 1920 or 21, in about 1915 the Mabie Todd Co. New York sold production rights over to Mabie Todd Co. England.
The nib fitted to this pen confirms authenticity and fits with this transitional period.
Rare to find this model, even rarer to acquire this pen in absolutely unused and new condition with its original box and paper leaflet entitled Directions for using The Swan Pen.
