Item 320417
Our Price:
USD $360.00
Product Code: BIGSWN
Description
A 1920s Swan fountain pen manufactured in black hard rubber and finished with a chased waves effect patterning.
One of the larger sized more robust models engraved SWAN S F on the cap, the outline of the Swan emblem engraved on the pens barrel is of the style introduced in the late 1920s and the engraved wording Swan Self filler Mabie Todd and Co Ltd in capital lettering is outstandingly clear as also is the chased patterning.
Ink filling is by side lever method a new rubber ink sac has been fitted. The 14 carat gold nib was made in New York and imported, a fine point size nib engraved Mabie Todd & Co. New York in pristine condition. Whilst manufacturing of Swan pens in England began from about 1907, the nibs were then made in New York and imported to the U.K.
Although the lever filler design was patented in the U.S.A. in January 1915 these models were not obtainable in the U.K. until 1920 or 21 in about 1915 the Mabie Todd Co. New York sold production rights over to Mabie Todd Co.Ltd. England. The nib fitted to this pen confirms authenticity and fits in with this transitional period.
Rare to find this model in good condition, even rarer to acquire this pen in absolutely pristine condition with its original box and paper leaflet entitled Directions for using The Swan Pen.
