| Having probably been kept in the original white silk lined presentation case since purchased in the late 1940s this superb Conway Stewart fountain pen and Nippy propelling pencil set appear not to have seen the light of day since late 1947. Almost sixty years old and yet as new and unused. In 1927 the Conway Stewart Company opened their factory in Shoe Lane, London. Surely a better name might have been Pen Lane. This being situated within the heavily bombed city area during the years of World War II production was greatly restricted, the factory suffered much damage but survived throughout the blitz. By 1946 as though unperturbed and with heightened productivity the Conway Stewart Company was again in full production. The fountain pens gold nib is a medium point size. A new rubber ink sac has been fitted. Spare leads are available for the Nippy model propelling pencil. Exceptionally rare to acquire such a superb set of this period. |
