From 1904 to 1920 The Conklin Company ranked as one of the largest of the American manufacturers of fountain pens. This is the Conklin model size 311 crescent filler.
The crescent ink filling pen series were produced from about 1907 the early models had a clipless slip on cap, this the improved non leakable interior threaded cap version became available in or about 1917 replacing the earlier slip on cap models.
There were no pocket clips shown on the pen caps featured in the Conklin pens catalogues published in 1912.
There is no pocket clip fitted on this pens cap, but there is a small hole in the cap where a clip could be fitted, or where a clip might once have been.
A beautiful panzy flower pattern in 18 carrat gold filled filigree overlay classic circa 1917,1920 fountain pen.
The authentic Conklin Crescent emblem Toledo 14 carat gold 1917 design style nib is a silky smooth writing flexible fine point size .
With the cap fitted on the end of the barrel section, as when the pen is in use, the overall length from the cap top to the nib end is six and three eight inches, or 16cm.
Of interest, this is the same filigree type model of pen seen being used in the excellent film entitled Miss Potter, produced under the direction of the renowned Hollywood director and owner of Phoenix Pictures Mike Medavoy.
