The Freachman Jean Benoit Mallot 1884 invented this type of retractable nib safety pen, Mallot manufacturers further developed the Pullman safety model, it is believed that this Talma pen would likely have been produced by the same French manufacturer.
Manufactured in red ripple sometimes called red wood grain pattern which was a popular and eye catching pattern of the period, achieved by a method of blending red and black ebonite or vulcanite material.
The 18 carat gold size 5 warranted medium point nib is not iridium tipped
