| An exceptionally rare classic fountain pen and propelling pencil combination pen thought to be a prototype model.
Made of sterling silver, manufactured by the Mabie Todd Company of New York.
In 1908 the company became British owned and progressively manufacturing was moved from America to Britain, throughout the 1920s into the 1930s only metal case fountain pens continued to be produced by The Mabie Todd Company of New York, this one off pen was probably a prototype combination model which may have been made at an earlier time.
The design of the arrow style fixed pocket clip and the side lever for ink filling questionably indicate an early 1900s model.
The propelling pencel section is fully working and the fountain pen section has a new rubber ink sac fitted.
The standard wording engraved in capital lettering round the forward part of this pen reads Swan Pen Mabie Todd and Co. New York. Sterling Silver.
This is a unique pen ideally suited for the enthusiast collector of rare and classic models. |
