Platignum fountain pens may have originally been made by the Mentmore Manufacturing Co Ltd. The first series of Platignum pens became available in 1927 these were all fitted with a then newly developed alloy nib, boastfully stated as being superior to the more usual gold plated metal nibs. By mid 1928 a further series of more diverse and brightly coloured models were produced. In the early 1990s some Platignum fountain pens based on the original styles of those of the late 1920s were reproduced. This attractive and brightly patterned Platignum De Luxe fountain pen is thought to be one of the original late 1920s models. Manufactured in pale green with white flecks celluloid fused with varying shades of fawn brown. Having a chrome plated pocket clip and side lever a new rubber ink sac has been fitted. The authentic flexible Alloy medium point size nib is fitted. An attractively patterned standard everyday fountain pen in excellent condition, clearly engraved in capital lettering on the pens barrel is the wording Platignum De Luxe. |
