| An early model Conway Stewart fountain pen. Manufactured in mottled red and black vulcanite material ie a type of hard rubber mid to late 1920s period. Patented on 18th of June 1925. Patent No 235447. Clearly engraved on the pens barrel is COMBRIDGE BIRMINGHAM the retailing company being the Lewis Company. In 1924 Conway Stewart patented their Lock Down design of side lever which is seen on this pen, after ink filling the lever is pressed fixing it down by friction. The pocket clip is secured to the cap internally, a ball end design clip fitted with the large size ball. The nickel plating on the side lever and the clip is in perfect condition. The rare superb 14 carat gold nib is engraved COMBRIDGE BIRMINGHAM. The ink feed seen underneath the nib is also in matching red vulcanite material, usually the ink feed is in plain black material. A new rubber ink sac has been fitted. A very rare classic fountain pen of about 80 years old and in excellent condition. |
