| Circa 1925 this large size Sheaffer lifetime pen is manufactured in a material concocted from a pyroclastic substance which the Sheaffer company produced in 1924 as pyroxylin and then called Radite, claimed by Sheaffer's to be virtually indestructible.
The ball end pocket clip with a large size ball at the clips end is of the design introduced in 1924 there is some light wear on the gold plating at the top edge of the clip and on the high point of the clips ball where the brass base metal is revealed. In 1918 The W A Sheaffer company introduced their white dot guarantee emblem which is seen inset within the flat top designed cap. The large gold Sheaffer Lifetime made in USA nib is a medium point size numbered 1130771, an impressive nib in pristine condition.
Ink filling is by side lever method a new rubber ink sac has been fitted. One of the classic models and a great fountain pen as a collectors piece as well as being an excellent pen for everyday use. |
