This Swan quality gold filled Lady model would have been made in about 1921. Having become British owned in 1908 The Mabie Todd Company Limited of New York phased out production until eventually only metal case fountain pens and gold nibs continued into the 1920s to be manufactured in America.
Side lever filling fountain pens became available in America in 1916 but were not generally available in England until 1921. Made in New York this gold filled Lady Swan ring top pen was probably exported to the United Kingdom in the early 1920s. The Swan size 1 medium point 14 carat gold nib is as new.
Ink filling is by side lever method a new rubber ink sac has been fitted. A superb fountain pen perhaps nearly 90 years old and yet in a like new as though unused condition. |
