| A late 1930s model 0160 twist action filling pen, possibly made the year before or within the year of the outbreak of World War II in late 1939.
A notable feature is the gold plated raised Swan emblem that is Inset into the top of the pens cap. The ball end design of the gold plated pocket clip is of the style introduced in 1936 with an outline of the Swan engraved at the clips top.
The new leverless ink filling system was patented late in the year 1932 the method of ink filling the pen requires simply twisting the serrated blanking off piece at the end of the pens barrel, the twisting action causes the pressure bar inside the barrel section to depress the rubber ink sac expelling air or liquid, the reverse action then causes the ink sac to inflate thus filling the pen.
The drawback of this filling system being that the amount of ink drawn into the ink sac is lesser than that drawn in when compared with the more conventional side lever filling method.
The perfect condition Swan size 2 authentic 14 carat gold medium point nib also has the outline Swan emblem engraved on it. A very nice Swan quality fountain pen. |
