| A scarce 1952 fountain pen housed in the original Swan presentation box.
By the early part of 1950 the Mabie Todd Swan company was struggling to survive against the threat to business resulting from the advent of the new cheap use and throw away biro ballpoint pens which flooded the market.
By 1952 the Mabie Todd Company had reluctantly become Biro Swan, effectively the days of good quality fountain pen production were over.
This the New Blackbird is one of the last of the quality fountain pens manufactured in England by the Mabie Todd Company.
Ink filling is by twist action, the threaded end section of the pens barrel is removed by unscrewing, exposing the serrated chrome plated twist filler.
The 14 carat gold medium point size Blackbird nib is a flexible type of nib. |
