Description
Until the 17th century inkwells used by penners, a scribe, were generally portable. This travelling inkwell for the scribe probably dates from around the mid 1860s. Made of brass and enhanced with a floral decoration in raised relief, the outer casing being covered in morocco leather. Containing the glass inkwell. The button sprung release hinged lid having the cushioned leakproof leather seal which closes down onto the glass well.
