Description
A rare circa 1870s Waverley dip pen in pristine condition made by Macniven and Cameron Ltd. Originally from Edinburgh Scotland.
The city of Birmingham UK was the focal point for the manufacturing of steel pen nibs and dip pens from the early 1850s and became a venue for many of the smaller dip pen production companies with limited capital resources. Macniven and Cameron Ltd were one of these companies having moved from Scotland to establish their factory in Birmingham.
By the 1890s the natural further stages of progression was into the production of fountain pens.
This Waverley pen is a unique example of a Macniven and Cameron pen made during this transitional period. A dip pen with a cap making this a unique dip pen designed to be carried in the coat pocket like a fountain pen. The manufacturers engraving on the pen barrel is as sharp and clear as it was when newly engraved WAVERLEY MACNIVEN AND CAMERON MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN. Having the original dip pen nib.
An exquisite and beautifully patterned pen of historical importance representative of the transitional progressive development period.
