A circa 1930s fountain pen manufactured by the Wyvern Pen Company. The trade name having been derived from the mythical Wyvern Dragon which forms part of the Coat of Arms of Leicestershire England, where the company was based. During the boom years of manufacturing at the height of demand and the popularity of the fountain pen, orders were undertaken for the production of customised pens. This fountain pen is one of a consignment made to order for the Scottish office of the Daily Express National newspapers. Its condition is excellent, probably some seventy years old yet its virtually like new. Having the early design of Wyvern arrow point pocket clip and arrow point side lever. Ink filling is by side lever method. A new rubber ink sac has been fitted. The nib is in pristine condition, a medium point size 14 carat gold warranted nib. When capped the pens overall length is 13.7 centimetres. A keen pen collectors piece reminiscent of a bygone era of far better times. |
