Marlene Dietrich. roughly 1944 liberated Europe show's to the front line troops given a 48 hour or 72 hour pass away from high risk front line combat active duty etc...entertainment organised by the Red Cross and USO Bob Hope, Bing Crosby etc.. Marlene was high on Adolf's wanted list for possible execution as a German Renegade etc..
Paris at The Ritz Hotel one venue of a number of party's invited by Ernest Hemingway and Mary Walsh ( Times Life correspondents) according to the family ( long deceased ) of a then young officer, the officer asked Marlene if he could have a picture taken with her, he lit her cigarette for her, she liked his cigarette lighter and exchanged it for this, her cigarette holder.
Under those circumstances, understandably the young officer did'nt have the presence of mind to ask Marlene to write a note of authenticity ?. Some futher possible suportive details printed in  'Siegfried' by Charles Whiting, The Nazi's Last Stand paperback  pages 47 49 and 50.
